The Borough of Somerset is working on updating our records so that we can effectively communicate with our customers on existing/upcoming projects, outages, and important utility/Borough notifications. Please help us with this process!

Each bag MUST have a green sticker. Stickers are available at the Borough Water Office, 347 W. Union St.
Leaves must be bagged and out by the curb before 6:00 am.
Bags must be no larger than 32-gallon capacity.
Compost from this project is available at no charge to residents of the Borough participating in the program. Call 443-2661 for information concerning availability.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a drought watch last week for 33 counties, including Somerset. The drought watch is due to the little rain over September and October, capping off a dry six months, particularly in the southeast part to the state. MABS has adequate water supply however, it is important that all users begin being cognizant of their usage to mitigate the possibility of stricter conservation measures in the future.

All customers are charged a base rate that is based on their meter size. This base rate (minimum charge) is designed to recover a portion of the fixed costs incurred in providing water and sewer services. The costs include debt services, the cost of maintaining the water supply, treatment of water and sewer, distribution and service of facilities that are needed to provide water and sewer service to your home or business. This change in the rate structure was implemented for the water rate in January 2023 and for the sewer rate in January 2024. Please see the attached Rate Schedule for additional information.

The water and sewer bills are generated into two billing cycles, which means we have two due dates. All bills are either due on the 5th or 25th of each month. Each account falls into one of these cycles based on their location. There is a penalty of five percent applied to each bill that surpasses the due date.
If your main sanitary sewer line from your house is clogged, call the Borough at 814-443-2661 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., evenings and weekends call County Control at 814-445-1525.
If you experience low water pressure, call the Borough at 814-443-2661 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.— 4:30 p.m. This could be caused by a water break or a problem in your house that the Borough can inform you that you need to contact a plumber.

The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Somerset (MABS) is taking steps to identify the types of service line materials used by each of its customers. The service line is the pipe that connects your home or building to the water main in the street. Service lines may be made of lead, copper, galvanized metal or plastic. Learn more.
100 blocks of North and South Center
The 100 Blocks of North and South Center Ave Sidewalk Replacement Project is a partially grant funded project that will update the utilities and provide a much needed replacement of sidewalks to the portion of Center Ave between Union Street and Patriot Street. This entire project is scheduled to be completed by end of June 2024. This project is in alignment with the W. Main Street Improvement project completed in 2019 and aim to preserve the character of Uptown Somerset, making necessary utility upgrades, and improve economic opportunity for the long term.
